Should Have Known

Never trust the echoes of the past
They haunt you
Structures discovered under trusting lights
Solutions postulated with a glimmer of hope
The darkness could recede
The night could finally find resolution
My search could have been concluded
Though I forgot the opposition
An army of darkness mocking my attempts
Damning my movement into regression
Blockading as I begged for passage
Denial encompassing my afternoon leisure
Simply dropped after eight hours
I can only hate the slowly prowling power
The ball and chain that ironically holds me back
As my enemy mocks me with the stack
I degraded character to fulfill shortsighted glamour
I declined the everlasting for the faintly heard
If the shadows accept me I should only be so lucky.
